I'm Pat Taylor, Welcome to Makanacoon Cattery

Yours truly with GP Makanacoon's Gigabyte

Our kittens are handled every day from 2 weeks on, and are raised with our dog, Makala, so are very balanced and socialized by the time they leave our cattery.

Makala and kittens meet for the first time in our den. Makala is on her lead line, and under control. She learns quickly to be gentle, and as you can see the kittens are not frightened.

Sure tells the story, doesn't it? Here is Makala in the bedroom (lead line on, but not being held) on the bed with Lovebug from the recent Drifter litter playing right in Makala's face. When we say our kittens are used to being around dogs, we mean it. Just remember that a new kitten cannot be put with any established animal for a while.

In winter of 2011, we moved into a new home in Virginia Beach, VA. As you can see, there were just bushes, and no flower beds. I spent from January of 2012 until spring putting in rose bushes and perennials from my old home. It was my Hawaiian background of living in the Islands when my father was stationed twice in Hawaii, and once on Midway Island for two years, that has led me to love flowers, and their colors and fragrances. And, of course the influence of my precious mother who used to love to see what I planted each new year, and was an avid gardener all of my life!

Here are pictures our new home in the spring of 2013.

We have had a wonderful cool spring this year with lots of rain. All the rose bushes and perennials that we brought with us to this house in December of 2011 are now thriving.

It is a joy to walk outside, and see all the beautiful colors, and the aroma of the flowers fills the air! Spring is definitely here!

Summer of 2013.

Summer front yard on 7/19/13 with much daily watering, but still surviving!!

We have finally finished the cattery! This photo shows the steps going down into the spayed girls and Rocky Top's room with an outside door for safety, and a glass door that separates the girl's from the boy's room. This area also opens to our laundry room and kitchen that Rocky and the girls have access to. Walls are PVC wall board so very easy to keep clean, and flooring so much better than rugs and blankets put over the top of concrete.

This photo is the boy's room where Whirl a Way, Remember When (Embers), and Gotabe live together (uncaged), although we keep cages for emergencies. Love having the outside door again that opens to the front of the house for safety, and windows that the boys can see out of from their cat trees. Now to get everything moved back in, and final pictures! So grateful that this is done!! Our whole girls and Gigabyte live in the rest of our home.

A picture of how my kitchen looks everyday. These are some of the girls (several spays) that can travel out to the cattery girl's room or stay in the kitchen. You can see where they prefer to be.

This is how our kitchen table is used. It's a perfect place to bask in the sun!

Rosalani relaxing in a plant terrarium. Right now all the plants are outside. In the winter the plants come in, and plexiglass inserts into the top. No more Kitty!

A picture of our kitten room. Yes, we have cages for emergencies. They are sometimes used the first 4 weeks after kittens are born so moms can't move babies, and so babies learn quickly to use litter boxes. Most of the kittens are not in the picture, but out running the house!

Along with our Maine Coon cats, we share our home with other animals.

This is the first meeting of Makala and I in the winter of 2010. I have always loved the Doberman, but decided to get a German Pinscher for my next dog. The word Makala is pronounced Mah-kah'lah in Hawaiian, and means a flower that is soon to bloom.

Finally, the ears go .......

up.

Makala learned quickly not to chase the cats, which is an instinct for this breed. Now in 2012, she is still in Obediance training, and can be trusted to sleep around and be around all of our young kittens. This is definitely good training if you want a kitten that is used to being around a dog, especially a German Pinscher.

In conclusion, if we ever can't find Makala, we know where to look! She's sleeping in a cat tree! What a dog!!!!!!

Our cats love to sit and watch our tropical fish for kitty entertainment.
There have been times they have gone fishing, and actually made "the catch of the day".

Keep on Dancing (Dancer)
When I had to put Dakota down due to an intestinal blockage, I felt I was not ready to give up horses, and my love of riding. I heard about Dancer from Barbara Felton, decided he was just what I wanted, and brought him up from Hudson, Florida. He is an absolutely lovely sweet well mannered Tennessee Walking Horse. Below are some pictures of him.
